Who is a Geriatrician

Geriatricians are medical doctors who specialize in the care of older adults. They receive subspecialty training in geriatrics after completion of internal medicine or family medicine residency training. Geriatricians focus on promoting health, preventing and treating diseases, and managing complex physical, mental, and social issues that often arise with aging.

They are trained to address conditions such as dementia, frailty, falls, polypharmacy (too many medications), and chronic conditions that commonly affect seniors. Geriatricians work to improve quality of life, maintain independence, and coordinate care across multiple healthcare providers, tailoring treatment plans to each patient’s unique needs and goals.
